Still No Pictures

I am getting closer to figuring out how to get pictures onto the blog with the new phone, but am still having a few technical difficulties.  I know you all read this blog for my amazing photography!
I hope to have this corrected and back to normal next week.

In math we are still working with fractions.  This week we have been using pictures to help us compare fractions.  This can be very tricky for second graders!
This is a great target to practice at home.  You can use pictures, measuring cups, measuring spoons, etc.

We are continuing to read the Tale of Despereaux as our read aloud.
This has been a wonderful way to discuss character traits, practice retelling, and improve our vocabulary.
I read aloud from this book daily, ask your child the latest events in the story.

This week we introduced our new science unit to prepare for the arrival of our insects.
We learned about incomplete and complete metamorphosis.
Incomplete has 3 stages:
egg
nymph
adult

Complete has 4 stages:
egg
larva
pupa
adult

We also learned about the body parts that all insects have in common:
head
thorax
abdomen
6 legs
antennae

This week we were able to combine our insect learning with non-fiction writing.
As we read our insect book, we stopped after each chapter and discussed the main idea and supporting details.  These facts were written in our star notebooks and will be ready for us to write an informational essay about insects.

Again, I apologize for another week photograph-less.
If all goes well, next weeks post will be the week in pictures.

Have a wonderful weekend!
We are all keeping our fingers crossed for some warmer weather soon!
