This week we jumped right in and learned how to write an opinion paragraph. I think it has been a nice change of pace for the kids to be able to express what they think. We started with Would you rather...?
prompts and we will gradually be moving to writing our opinions based on texts we read.
The pictures below show the opinion writing process we have followed this week.
Our math time this week has been filled with number stories. We have discussed the key words in the question that tell us what to do with the numbers in the story. We have also practiced extending the number story target. In order to extend this target the children will be required to read and analyze a number story that includes errors. They will cross out the word or phrase that does not fit and correct it so the entire problem makes sense. We will be doing a bit more work with this on Monday.
Here we are sharing numbers stories we created with a partner. The partner is writing the number sentence and the solution.
Today we worked on extending our coin target.
We worked on making both sides of a coin number sentence equal.
We had some great practice!
You will notice a few of our friends from Mrs. Creagh's class joined us this morning.
We have been busy learning about sound in science.
We learned about important sound vocabulary, how sound is created, and what is necessary for us to hear sound.
Our vocabulary is growing!
We added new words to our vocabulary folders that we included in our guided reading books.
Here are some of us reading and adding words to the folders.
Today we used those words to either create a wordle with synonyms and antonyms or made a poster illustrate the description of the word.
Important Valentine's Day Information
There is a new district policy this year that students will not be able to distribute candy with their valentines. Treats such as pencils, erasers, tattoos, etc are still allowed.
Thank you very much for your understanding and support!
Enjoy the spring-like weather this weekend!
Can we possibly remain this lucky and make it through the winter without snow?
Have a wonderful weekend and I will see my fabulous second graders next week!
