Reminders

This week I just have a few reminders for you since I was only in the class for one day.
I was out Tuesday and Wednesday for math curriculum work and I was home sick today with a fever and a cough.  It is very hard for me to stay home, but I did not want to spread the germs to the entire class!

Please remember students will not be allowed to pass out any candy on Valentine's Day.
Non-edible treats are permitted but not required: pencils, stickers, tattoos, erasers, etc.

Please send in the shoebox with the supplies to build the instrument on Monday.
The materials inside should be a secret.

Have a healthy weekend!

This Week - Final Post

I am sorry for the numerous posts tonight.
With all the pictures I had to share I thought it might be too much to have everything in one post.

A reminder from last week:
Students will not be allowed to pass out candy on Valentine's Day.
Small non-edible treats can (but are not required) be sent to school: pencils, erasers, tattoos, etc.
I will send home a class list next week.
If you choose to send valentines to school please make sure to include one for each child.

Today I sent home a note asking for materials to create an instrument as a final project for our sound unit.  Please do not discuss the items or the instrument that can be made with the items.  This is a wonderful creative thinking and problem solving activity for the children.

Finally, I will be out of the classroom next week on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
I will be in school participating in math curriculum work.

Thank you very much for reading all of this week's posts!
Enjoy the long weekend!

This Week - Part 2 Story Retells and Opinion Writing

We had a very busy and exciting week!
We had two field trips and the 5th grade musical amid all of our learning.

In reading we got a head start on the trimester 3 target of retelling a story.
The class read Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly a Plane. They then worked with partners to fill in a story map, use the information on the story map to write the retell, and illustrate part of the story.

The class has been doing a great job with opinion writing.
This week we wrote a paragraph with reasons that supported why Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a great leader.
We read two stories, a Scholastic News magazine, and watched a short Brainpop Jr. video to research information.

This is our brainstorming sheet.  We write all of our ideas, then pick and choose the 3
reasons we will include in our paragraph.

After brainstorming, we fill in our planning sheet.
This organizes our ideas so we are reading to write.
