Halloween etc.

We had a wonderful Halloween party!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to make the party so enjoyable for the class!
Here are some pictures of our day.

We put three new poems in our poetry binder this week.
We practiced one specific poem with a group to work on fluency and expression.
Enjoy the videos!

Today we reviewed our targets before taking the unit 3 math assessment.
We used our clickers to answer the questions.
Clickers make everything more fun!

We spent this week working very hard practicing main idea, comparing and contrasting, and writing paragraphs.
I am not sure where the time is going, but next week already brings us to the final week of our first trimester.  We will be busy completing our end of trimester assessments.
Shhh....don't tell them they are taking a test. That word is only used for spelling tests and timed tests.
I don't want anyone to feel pressured.  I just tell them that the work lets me know what they have learned.
It will be another week filled with very hard work, but I know we will do a great job!
Have a wonderful weekend!

                                                           Extending our knowledge of money

Reading  non-fiction and  fiction texts about fire safety.
First we read with a partner, then we talked about what similarities and differences.
This helped us with our target of comparing and contrasting information from two different
sources.

Finally we put the information on a Venn Diagram.

Wednesday we went on our field trip to Long Grove Confectionery!
We had a great time seeing producers in action and especially being consumers of chocolate!
Thank you to Mrs. Dluger (Joshua's mom), Mrs. Wegrzyn (Ben's mom), Mrs. Piepenbrink (Noah's mom), and Mrs. Kapoor (Nick's mom) for chaperoning our trip!

Waiting to watch the video about how chocolate is made and the history of Long Grove Confectionery.

The Statue of Liberty.  It started as a 3000 pound block of chocolate.
Its final weight after carving is 2500 pounds!

Mandy and Ben reported back to the class about Thursday's student council meeting.

We read a story about the different ways animals sleep.

Then we used the story to help us practice our informative/explanatory paragraph writing.

Here we are with our completed brainstorming papers.

Next week we will finish planning and write our first paragraph independently.

Today we finally met our 4th grade buddies from Mrs. Abel's class!
They helped us follow directions to draw a jack o' lantern. Then they decorated the picture to show what they have in common with each other.
Luckily the Packers fans ended up together! :)

We started learning about the water cycle in science.
In order to observe the evaporation of water we filled a cup with water and drew a line on the outside to show the water level.
We are going to check the water level on Monday to see what happens.

We played Boo! Bump! To practice adding 3 addends.

Another amazing week in second grade!
